The police extended the closing time of cinema halls in the city by another hour till midnight. On May 30, city police commissioner Shankar Bidari decreed that cinema shows could be held in theatres and multiplexes between 10 am and 11 pm.
Recently, the Multiplex Association of India and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce submitted representations on permission to show movies till midnight. |

A 50-year-old woman has died due to swine flu in the city, the 13th such death in Karnataka, official sources said.
Sarojamma, who was admitted to Thirumala Hospital here on August 15, died on Sunday night, the sources said.
She had been administered Tamiflu, the drug to cure the infection, on August 17 after which she had showed feeble signs of recovery but her condition deteriorated in the last two days. |

Former Chief Minister of the state, H D Kumaraswamy, warned that he would undertake 'fast unto death' agitation, if the BJP government of the state overlooks the development of Ramanagar district.
Speaking after taking part in the celebrations organized on the occasion of the completion of two years since the formation of Ramanagar district, he noted that the Chief Minister had made several promises to the citizens of the district, in his electioneering speeches during the recent by-election. He asked the Chief Minister to keep up the promises he made and take up development projects. "If the Chief Minister fails to take concrete steps towards implementation of the promises he made, an agitation would be launched for the same," he warned. Kumaraswamy asked the BJP not to neglect the development of the district and to complete all the development projects he himself had undertaken, for the benefit of the district, when he was the Chief Minister. |

Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras celebrated Patronal Feast of St Bernard on Thursday, August 20, duly presiding over the Eucharist at 6 pm at St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral. After the mass, a small felicitation function was arranged, after which the archdiocese Board of Education honoured 122 students, who secured 80% and above marks in S S L C examination in the year 2008-09.
Msgr Amritraj welcomed the faithfuls, expressing the gratefulness of the Archbishop. Fr Jayanathan, in his homily, applauded archbishop Moras for being able to lift the lives of the flock he is leading and also of the people of the diocese.
Archbishop Moras thanked for the arrangements made by he Cathedral parish priest, vicar general Amritraj, beautiful choir etc. He was very concerned about the people who are infected and affected by H1N1, Chikungunya and dengue fever, drought in the country, leading to the suicides by the farmers etc., and urged the faithfuls to pray for them in a special way. He also requested the faithfuls to continue praying for the people of the archdiocese, state the nation in general.
A book titled, ‘Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion’, a manual for the Eucharistic ministers in the archdiocese of Bangalore, was released at this juncture by the Archbishop. |

Two more persons have succumbed to swine flu in Bangalore, pushing up the death toll in Karnataka to seven on Thursday.
Hospital authorities on Thursday confirmed that two people -- Edward and Kalpana had succumbed to the pandemic early morning.
Edward, aged 41, died at the Shifa hospital while Kalpana (44) breathed her last at the Maria hospital.
A couple of hours ago, hospital authorities received the test results of both the patients, which confirmed that both the persons had died after contracting the deadly H1N1 virus. |
