“Property worth more than Rs 20 crore will be demolished in the next couple of days,” said a BBMP official.
The drive which started early Thurday morning continued till 6 pm and the work continued inspite of protests from the residents. “After the survey was completed, we issued warnings and therefore there is no need for notifications,” said Srikante Gowda, executive engineer, Padmanabhanagar range.
Encroachments flourished in this area over the last 15 years leading to a reduction of the width of the drain from 15 ft to 8 ft, explained the official. |

The Opposition JD(S) on Wednesday questioned the grounds on which Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was continuing in office when he has acknowledged his helplessness in protecting the state’s resources and preventing the exit of some of his trusted aides.
Yeddyurappa who could not protect those in his close circle cannot be trusted with the protection of the populace of the state, the JD(S) said.
It was referring to principal secretary V P Baligar who was shunted out and Shobha Karandlaje who was forced to quit the cabinet during the recent crisis in the BJP.
Following a meeting of the party’s senior leaders, JD(S) state unit president H D Kumaraswamy billed Yeddyurappa as a “lease-based” chief minister and said that he had insulted the people of the state by agreeing to accommodate in the core committee the very people who had rebelled against him. |

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa on Friday gave in to one of the demands of the dissident MLAs by transferring V P Baligar, his trusted bureaucrat and principal secretary.
Baligar will be replaced by INS Prasad, a 1986 batch officer. Baligar will now be principal secretary of commerce and industries department.
The move to replace the principal secretary is a first in recent years in the state. Accused of being favourable to a few ministers and MLAs who are close to the CM, Baligar had earned the ire of many of the BJP MLAs who have now revolted against the CM.
Known to be an efficient officer, Baligar’s ‘go by the rules’ nature is also said to have irked many of the dissident MLAs. |
