Intel's new six-core Xeon developed in Bangalore

A few hours ago in San Francisco, Intel unveiled the Xeon 7400 family of server processors, code-named Dunnington, including its first six-core design. The range includes three low-voltage versions, whereas the 7300 range had one, and Intel is claiming "the lowest watts-per-core usage of any device in their category".
It's "the first microprocessor for the mass market that [Intel] has developed almost exclusively at its design centre in Bangalore in a milestone for the research and development of computer hardware in India." It says.
"It's not just services and software that India is known for but this shows you also can do this kind of complex research and development and product design here in India," said Praveen Vishakantaiah, president of Intel India. |

CM for HP Bhawan in Bangalore

The state government will soon take up the issue of construction of Himachal Bhawan in Bangalore with the Karnataka government. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal assured the people of the state residing in Bangalore that the state government would make all out efforts to see that the proposal got through at the earliest.
He was interacting with the office-bearers of Karnataka- Bangalore Himachal Pradesh Association who called on him under the leadership of its chairman-cum-president Prabhat Chaudhary at Bangalore today.
Dhumal said the Himachal Bhawan complexes constructed in New Delhi and Chandigarh were serving well a large number of Himachalis and people from adjoining states who visited the cities for getting treatment in hospitals and other purposes. A similar complex at Bangalore would enable Himachalis residing in the city a suitable place to celebrate festivals and give boost to social activities. |

Yeddyurappa to review law and order in coastal region today

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who is now touring Mysore will be in Udupi on Monday to review the law and order situation in the coastal region, following Sunday’s attacks on Christian prayer halls in three districts.
Mr. Yeddyurappa told The Hindu on Sunday that directions had already been issued to the police in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chikmagalur districts besides the Inspector-General of Police (Western Range), to immediately restore law and order in the region and arrest the persons involved. “I have told the police to book the culprits under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA), if need be. Nobody is above law.”
The Chief Minister condemned the attacks on places of worship and said that “irrespective of religion, creed or political ideologies, all persons connected with the attacks will be brought to book. I call upon the people to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining peace and to report any untoward incident.” |

Olympic medal winners felicitated

The State Government felicitated boxers Sushil Kumar and Vijendra Singh, who won bronze medals at the Olympics.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa felicitated boxers Sushil Kumar and Vijendra Singh on the occasion of Karnataka Olympic Association Annual Award distribution function today and invited them to participate in the world famous Mysore Dasara celebrations to be held in Mysore from September 30 to October 9. The duo were presented with the cheque of Rs two lakhs each.
Olympian Sushil Kumar said the country has a lot of talent, only lacking is encouragement. ''There is lot of talent in the country, if encouraged properly many more individual medals can be won'', the bronze medal winner in (Wrestling) Beijing Olympics told here. |

CM Yeddyurappa on hi-tech track

Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa despite often calling himself a man with a rural background, launched himself into hi-tech governance today, via Video-conferencing for the first time in the state. Thanks to the elaborate arrangements made by the NIC he could talk to the Deputy Commissioners in two divisions of Gulburga and Belgaum covering 12 districts at a time.
The two hours of Video conference guided him through a plethora of problems and issues that required the urgent attention of the administration all over the state particularly in the districts that were plagued by floods on one hand and drought on another.
Mr.Yeddyurappa directed the Deputy Commissioners to concentrate on relief in the districts that faced natural calamities like floods and drought. He said the officials should take all the steps to relieve the people of their miseries they have been inflicted with in the losses in property and life. |
