Excise Minister MP Renukacharya is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons. The controversial minister's exparamour Jayalakshmi on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Governor HR Bharadwaj seeking his removal from the Yeddyurappa cabinet. Jayalakshmi who created a storm in 2007 by making public the photographs of Renukacharya in a compromising position with her, has said that the minister "sexually harassed her for several years which drove her to attempt suicide". “Born in a cultured Brahmin family, with great difficulty I did my nursing course and joined government service. He harassed me sexually for several years. Even after I took the decision to complain to the police, the harassment continued and I attempted suicide," she said. Jayalakshmi further alleged that the complaint filed before the state women's commission against the minister was missing and even the other complaints had not been attended to by the respective authorities, due to Renukacharya’s influence. She also urged the Governor to provide her personal security, as in the past, she had received death threats from Renukacharya's aides. Before submitting the memorandum, Jayalakshmi along with a few women's organisations, staged a protest in front of Town Hall demanding the minister's dismissal. |
